Our first morning in Hong Kong! And finally able to access
Facebook and other sites! They are currently banned in mainland China, but
allowed in Hong Kong under the 1 country 2 system rule. Today we were able to
meet and tour with Li and Wang- a globally renown company that concentrates on
providing trading, sourcing, and even distribution for retailers. Some of their
clients include McDonalds, Kohl’s, Target, Chanel, and Disney. Often, Li and
Wang will cover all aspects of a product from design to production to packaging
to shipping to the stores. Li and Wang is an instrumental agent for retailers sourcing
their operations in other countries. We were able to tour the headquarters
which included elaborate, beautiful showrooms displaying both hard and soft
goods for clients and potential clients. We also explored the underground system
(it can be quite an adventure learning your way around) which is the preferred choice
of transportation in Hong Kong.
Back at the Courtyard Marriott, we received a back of the
house tour by former USC alum, Jacky Chan. I found it interesting that the back of the
house operated very similar to the hotels back home, but with much less space.
After our tour, we traveled by ferry to enjoy the nightly Hong Kong laser light
show hosted by several buildings. The view of the Hong Kong skyline overlooking
the harbor is spectacular! No other views can compare quite like this one!
